The Morning After Nighthawks
I took the composition from “Nighthawks” by Hopper and reversed the light and attitudes. I added a little local mythology into the painting as well.
If you look closely at the light pole in the foreground, you will see a green bouquet with two dark red roses. This is a memorial to Patrick Duffy. He was a panhandler and ex Vietnam war “tunnel rat”. He passed away while I was working on this painting. A local beat poet pizza delivery woman left that memorial to him there. So I included it.
