Kathy

My sister often complimented my depiction of water. So one summer I decided to dedicate a large canvas to the water of the Willamette River. Raising the horizon to the upper quarter gave me the composition. The entire canvas was done plein air from the upper deck of "Victory". One afternoon Kathy came by with the news of her diagnosis. I told her that I was going to paint her into this scene in the Kayak, so she got in the kayak and enthusiastically paddled out across the river. I excluded all other people from the painting to focus on her solitude in dealing with her diagnosis. The original painting now hangs in her bedroom and she is doing fine.
